Island Charm No More
Star Rating - 1/5/2016
Anna Maria Island was once a quaint location one could find respite & charm. The island was home to many families & retiree's with a balance of vacationers. Unfortunately, this quiet idyllic area has given birth to investment development where one will find large, mostly unaesthetically pleasing "barns" built to house multiple families (sometimes up to 25 ppl), it is a parking lot during the Winter months & don't even think of going anywhere on "check out days." - Myrtle Beach on Spring Break. If you plan on renting or purchasing in any of the 3 towns that make up Anna Maria Island please think twice about what buildings are around you. If there are older properties nearby expect them to be bought up by a (name witheld) builder & turned into a 6-8 bedroom party central. The noise issues from these properties has been known to be over the top. Imagine spending 2-4K/ wk to find out you have a "family of 23" partying 12-16 hours a day in the pool behind you - or the pounding of pilings being driven into the ground on the new build 2 streets over - yes, it's that bad. The towns have put noise ordinances in place, however enforcement is an issue. As you can see the population of full time residences has declined over 20%.
